A House Full of Stuff

I think human beings may be the only creatures that hoard “stuff” and seem to feel there is value in doing so. Or comfort. Or something that makes them feel better somehow.

Downsizing at a senior is a hard job because we’ve given meaning to many of our belongings that doesn’t hold up under scrutiny. A hard question to ask oneself is: After I have passed away, what meaning will this item hold for others? The sad truth is that many of our precious belongings mean something to us, or did at one time, which is another consideration. Possessions that meant to us at one┬átime in our life may lose that meaning. It takes an honest approach to our things to determine what’s worth hauling along with you.

There is a freedom in purging belongings, especially as we age. Life is richer in many other ways and we realize that having more stuff doesn’t make us happier. Enough for now…
